Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Feb 17, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal February 21, 2002
In the PC100 category, we're seeing mainly price increases, with the PC100 CAS2 ECC 256mb being the only module that had no price change from last week. All other PC100 modules we list have gone up in price, ranging from $3.00 (PC100 CAS2 128mb, PC100 CAS3 64mb) to $13.00 (PC100 CAS2 256mb). Several PC133 prices remain the same as last week, yet we have a couple bigger price jumps going from $3.00 to $13.00 here as well. PC133 CAS3 512mb is up $11 to $88.00, PC133 CAS2 256mb is up $13 to $52.00, and PC133 CAS2 512mb went up $11 to $88.00 as well.
As of late, DDR SDRAM prices have tended to move very little in either direction; but in this week's guide, we see most of the DIMMs we list going up slightly in price. The largest of these price increases in on PC2100 128mb which went up $6 to $46.00. We also see a couple $1 and $2 price increases on DDR SDRAM this week as well. The only price drops we have, this week, are on RDRAM. PC800 ECC 512mb dropped by $10 to $228.00, and PC800 512mb dropped $7 to $150.00. We also had a couple $1 and $2 increases and another three unchanged prices. Just before Christmas of 2001, memory manufacturers and retailers seemed to be facing a losing battle, which let consumers benef from unheard of memory price drops. SDRAM was one type of memory that dropped down in price further than most; at times a module would drop $5 to $15 in a single week. Welcome to 2002, when memory prices which are steadily going up again. While we had a bit of a "calm," in January, where SDRAM prices increased and stayed the same for a bit, we're once again seeing more significant price increases on SDRAM. Since memory prices can go up and down, daily, depending on market conditions and availability, we suggest you use our guide only to provide you with an idea on where prices are heading. Many vendors also state that their prices are specifically for phone orders, you should be reminded, while others offer the lowest prices on online orders. Do yourselves a favor and check prices again before deciding whether or not to buy, as prices have been changing (usually increasing) so quickly that most of this guide is unlikely to remain accurate for a day, let alone a week.
