Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Feb 24, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal February 26, 2002
Breaking the trend of constant, and constantly rising, price increases in SDRAM that we've seen lately, this week's guide shows only a few low price increases. In the PC100 category, we have a $3 and a $2 price increase (on PC100 CAS3 128mb and PC100 CAS3 256mb, respectively), along with several $1 price increases. On PC133 SDRAM, we had somewhat more notable price jump on the PC133 CAS2 512mb, which went up $8 to $96.00; but other than that, just more $1 price increases.
As expected, we're still not seeing SDRAM price come back down (except for a $1 drop on PC100 CAS3 64mb); but thankfully the prices aren't moving upward too quickly; and we still have a selection of modules staying at a constant price week after week.
While the prices on PC2100 DIMMs remain unchanged in price, we do see (surprise!) a couple slight price drops on PC2400 DIMMs. PC2400 256mb went down by $5 to $74.00 and PC2400 128mb went down a buck to $62.00. I know it may not be much; but it's certainly better than more price increases. RDRAM prices are pretty much holding steady. All of the RDRAM in our guide, except for PC800 ECC 128mb RIMMS (which only went up by $1), remain unchanged in price this week. As expected, overall our memory prices for this week remain, for the most part, unchanged. Since memory prices can go up and down, daily, depending on market conditions and availability, we suggest you use our guide only to provide you with an idea on where prices are heading. Many vendors also state that their prices are specifically for phone orders, you should be reminded, while others offer the lowest prices on online orders. Do yourselves a favor and check prices again before deciding whether or not to buy, as prices have been changing (usually increasing) so quickly that most of this guide is unlikely to remain accurate for a day, let alone a week.
