Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Mar 10, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 12, 2002
We see some movement, this week, on PC100 modules, which are going up in price. PC100 CAS2 128mb DIMMS saw the biggest price jump, moving up $15 to $34.00 this week (it had gone down in price by $11 last week), followed by PC100 CAS2 64mb, which went up $6 to $21.00. PC133 prices remain close to last week's except for PC133 CAS2 64mb which went up $11 to $45.00. The only lower prices to be had this week are on PC100 CAS3 128mb and PC133 ECC 64mb, each of which fell by only $1.00.
DDR SDRAM seems to be one memory type that doesn't change too often, and this week is no exception. The only price change, this week, is on PC2400 128mm DIMMs, which went up $4 to $66.00. While the prices listed from Crucial.com may seem, at first glance, to be more expensive than some you'll find on the price circuit, Crucial actually ends up being cheaper when you take shipping prices into account (a difference of $10+), which is why the seemingly "higher" prices have been listed in our guide. RDRAM is quite a mixed bag, this week. We see a couple of modules hold stead in price, a couple of others drop by a dollar, and one go up by $17-- an increase that brings PC800 ECC 512mb up to $245.00. As expected, our memory prices for this week remain, for the most part, unchanged save for a couple of price increases. Since memory prices can go up and down, daily, depending on market conditions and availability, we suggest you use our guide only to provide you with an idea on where prices are heading. Many vendors also state that a price is specifically for a phone order, you should be reminded, while others offer the lowest prices on online orders. So do yourself a favor and check prices again before deciding whether or not to buy, as prices have been changing (usually increasing) so quickly that few of prices in this guide are likely to remain accurate for a day, let alone a week.
