Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of January 21, 2008By SharkyExtreme.com Staff January 21, 2008The following chart outlines prices on name-brand, single module DDR prices. We've taken a cross-section of the top name brands (as voted by Sharky readers), and when possible, used the highest-end module possible. In the case of Corsair, this translates into "LL" or Low Latency, while Kingston HyperX, Mushkin "Level 2" (L2), and OCZ Enhanced Latency "EL" modules are also featured. Not all DDR clock speeds are available at these enhanced memory formats, and some of our PC4000 and up listings naturally use more standard timings and brand names. Tracked DDR is in the PC2700 to PC5000 range, but each vendor may have a different "high-end" speed, and might not offer all of the clock speed permutations. The single-module DDR chart continues to show very little in the way of price movement - in either direction. The largest drop was only $8 shaved off the price of the OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum 1-GB module, followed up by a measly $6 price cut to OCZ PC3200 Special OPS 1-GB. The price increases are even less exciting, mainly because there were none, and the only activity in the entire list comes from the trio of slim price drops. This led to a nominal $15 overall chart drop this week, which is pretty well par for the course where DDR is concerned. It has been quite a while since the single-module DDR chart moved by any noticeable amount.
