Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of March 3, 2008By SharkyExtreme.com Staff March 6, 2008The following chart outlines prices on name-brand, single module DDR prices. We've taken a cross-section of the top name brands (as voted by Sharky readers), and when possible, used the highest-end module possible. In the case of Corsair, this translates into "LL" or Low Latency, while Kingston HyperX, Mushkin "Level 2" (L2), and OCZ Enhanced Latency "EL" modules are also featured. Not all DDR clock speeds are available at these enhanced memory formats, and some of our PC4000 and up listings naturally use more standard timings and brand names. Tracked DDR is in the PC2700 to PC5000 range, but each vendor may have a different "high-end" speed, and might not offer all of the clock speed permutations. The single-module DDR listings have not moved very much through the first few months of 2008, but we are seeing some downward movement this week. Five price drops hit double digits, along with a nice selection of smaller cuts - well over half the DDR listings decreased in price. The larger drops included the Kingston HyperX PC4000 1-GB (-$20), OCZ PC3200 Performance 1-GB (-$18) and Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000 1-GB (-$16) modules. There was only a single price increase, and that was a $1 jump to Crucial Ballistix TR PC4000 512-MB. This resulted in a very positive chart trend, as the overall listings dropped by a total of $124.
