Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of April 28, 2008By SharkyExtreme.com Staff April 30, 2008The following chart outlines prices on name-brand, single module DDR prices. We've taken a cross-section of the top name brands (as voted by Sharky readers), and when possible, used the highest-end module possible. In the case of Corsair, this translates into "LL" or Low Latency, while Kingston HyperX, Mushkin "Level 2" (L2), and OCZ Enhanced Latency "EL" modules are also featured. Not all DDR clock speeds are available at these enhanced memory formats, and some of our PC4000 and up listings naturally use more standard timings and brand names. Tracked DDR is in the PC2700 to PC5000 range, but each vendor may have a different "high-end" speed, and might not offer all of the clock speed permutations. There was very little movement in the single-module DDR chart, and that covers both price increases and decreases. The largest price drops included a $5 cut to Super Talent PC3200 1-GB and $4 off PNY Optima PC3200 1-GB. A pair of price jumps outpaced these two, as Geil Value PC3200 1-GB and Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000 1-GB spiked by $8 and $10, respectively. Due to this, it's no surprise that the overall chart trends were very consistent, and the aggregate total increased by $8. This is rather disappointing, as the previous two DDR charts showed drops of $82 and $52.
