Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of December 22, 2008By SharkyExtreme.com Staff December 22, 2008The following chart outlines prices on name-brand, single module DDR prices. We've taken a cross-section of the top name brands (as voted by Sharky readers), and when possible, used the highest-end module possible. In the case of Corsair, this translates into "LL" or Low Latency, while Kingston HyperX, Mushkin "Level 2" (L2), and OCZ Enhanced Latency "EL" modules are also featured. Not all DDR clock speeds are available at these enhanced memory formats, and some of our PC4000 and up listings naturally use more standard timings and brand names. Tracked DDR is in the PC2700 to PC5000 range, but each vendor may have a different "high-end" speed, and might not offer all of the clock speed permutations. From week to week, we see very little activity in the single-module DDR chart, and it's virtually the same story again this time out. There was only a single price drop that managed to hit double digits. Kingston's ValueRAM PC3200 1GB module fell by $10, and there were just five other price decreases, ranging from $1 to $5. Thankfully, there were very few price increases, and none of any consequence. A $5 jump to the price of an AllComponents PC3200 1GB module was the largest, which led to a very uneventful week, and a total chart drop of $10.
