February 2004 Video Card Price Guide - Page 4

By Vince Freeman February 20, 2004

Mainstream Video Cards

Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$200 price range, and it's really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon 9600XT and GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain.

This month we see quite a few very interesting mainstream values, including the Radeon 9700 Pro 128-MB at just under $200, along with the intriguing GeForce FX 5900XT cards, which are slightly lower-clocked revisions of the GeForce FX 5900 powerhouse. At the other end of the price list, we find the Radeon 9600XT and GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, which are both very popular options at the $150-$170 price range. For those with $100-and-change to spend, the Radeon 9600 and GeForce FX 5600XT are the logical choices, though spending a bit more for the standard GeForce FX 5700 might not be a bad call for NVIDIA fans.
