    March Video Card Price Guide
    March 31, 2004

    Mainstream Video Cards

Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$200 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon 9600XT and GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain.

The mainstream video card segment received some hefty cuts this week, especially the Radeon 9800SE cards. These may not have the power of a true Radeon 9800-based product, but they do compete quite well against the Radeon 9600 Pro/XT models, and are rapidly turning into a real value. Moving higher up the board, we see the Radeon 9700 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 XT cards really taking charge, and walking away with the higher-end of the mainstream market. We've also added in the Radeon 9500 Pro to the list, but its current price isn't very impressive when compared against the Radeon 9700 Pro.
