May Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff May 28, 2004If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon 9800XT and GeForce FX 5950 cards, some of which can push $500. The Radeon 9800 Pro 128-MB refuses to slide into the mainstream chart, but at just a hair over $200, it still represents the best overall performance value. The Radeon 9800 Pro 256-MB dropped nicely, but is still priced higher than the extra 128MB of memory should warrant. Moving higher up the board, the ASUS GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB received another price cut, and looks to be the best high-end NVIDIA deal. It's tough to recommend buying a Radeon 9800XT 256MB this month, with the Radeon X800 Pro 256MB coming out shortly, at virtually the same price. Wait until the new ATI cards are released and then check the Radeon 9800XT listings.
