June 2004 Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff June 30, 2004Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$200 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon 9600XT and GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain. There was a great deal of price activity in the mainstream video card segment, and value is even better this month than last. The Radeon 9600 Pro 128-MB and GeForce FX 5700 cards dropped consistently, while the old-school Radeon 9500 Pro dropped $40 and moved into a more realistic position. The All-in-Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro 128-MB moved in the opposite direction, and has moved above the $200 mark. Fortunately, the GeForce FX 5900 XT boards are hanging tough, and along with the Radeon 9700 Pro 128-MB, these now look to be as top choices in the mainstream area. We've also started listing the Sapphire Radeon 9800 (128-bit) 128MB card, which is a full 9800 Pro core, but features only 128-bit memory and a $174 price.
