June 2004 Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff June 30, 2004If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 and GeForce 6800-based cards, some of which can push $600. The Radeon 9800 Pro 128-MB continues to straddle the line between mainstream and high-end, and refuses to dip below the $200 level. Even so, this is still the top overall value for high-end buyers, but with the release of the next-generation ATI and NVIDIA cards, enthusiasts will want to move a bit higher on the list. The ATI side is pretty stable, but we do see some interesting developments with NVIDIA's high-end selection. The base GeForce 6800 128-MB boards are looking pretty good at $300, and likely warranted the noticeable cuts to many GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256-MB cards. This is strangely not the case for ATI, and even the entrance of the X800 Pro 256-MB ($420) hasn't done anything to budge prices on the Radeon 9800 XT 256-MB ($398-$400) cards.
