July 2004 Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff July 31, 2004If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end video card market is shifting the most of all, with the various top-end cards all jockeying for position. The ATI Radeon 9800XT seems to be the most vulnerable, both from NVIDIA and ATI competition, and prices have dropped accordingly. We expect prices to drop even further in the coming months, so this is definitely one area to look for deals. The GeForce 6800 128MB cards are also looking well positioned compared to ATI, so it's a bit surprising to see prices dropping on these as well. The ultra high-end Radeon X800 XT and GeForce 6800 Ultra cards are seeing the least activity, as both ATI and NVIDIA are maintaining profit margins.
