August Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff August 30, 2004Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$200 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon 9600XT and GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain. The mainstream video card list was again very active this month, and showed us not only a lot of double-digit price cuts, but a few in the $20 and up range. The largest was for the PCI Express ATI X600 XT 128MB, which dropped a whopping $34, while its ATI X600 Pro 128MB and ATI X300 128MB brethren weren't far behind with $23 and $20 cuts respectively. On the AGP side, the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB moved down $24 and the GeForce FX 5700 128MB dropped $13, making it the only NVIDIA mainstream card to receive a cut higher than $10. The Radeon 9800 Pro continues to drop, albeit slowly, and the impressive GeForce FX 5900XT cards actually rose slightly this month. Both cards are top picks for performance 3D gaming, and it's not surprising to see only nominal price changes for August.
