August Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff August 30, 2004If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end video card market is the home of the deepest cuts and the largest price spikes, but it's important to temper this with the reality of the market. Some high-end cards are still very difficult to allocate in significant numbers, so (especially in the case of the GeForce 6800 GT and Ultra cards) the price changes are reflective of vendor supplies, rather than any real market shift. When we move below the enthusiast-level, there are some definite trends, such as the price cuts to the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and the almost total disappearance of the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra boards. ATI is also on the move, and the Radeon 9800XT models are also being cut, and like NVIDIA, ATI is looking to position their last-gen performance parts against the current high-end models.
