September Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff September 29, 2004If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT Platinum and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end video card market is once again the home of the deepest cuts and the largest price spikes, along with having the largest gap between highest and lowest price. The low to mid-range of the enthusiast-level cards encompasses the Radeon 9800 Pro and newly minted GeForce 600 GT boards, and then progresses up to the GeForce 6800 and Radeon 9800 XT cards. At this level we did find some noticeable price cuts, especially with the ATI Radeon 9800 XT listings, which are falling fast. When we move to the upper end of the scale, it's GeForce 6800 GT/Ultra and Radeon X800 Pro/XT territory, and once again we find a few significant price changes. Some of these high-end cards are still are still very difficult to allocate in significant numbers, so many of these price changes are reflective of vendor supplies, rather than any real shift in overall market prices.
