November Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff November 3, 2004Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$199 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon 9600XT and GeForce 6800, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain, and have then dropped in price. The mainstream video card list is usually where the main pricing action takes place, especially when we take into consideration the relative percentages involved. October witnessed a couple of $20+ price cuts, with some from each of the AGP (ATI Radeon 9500 128MB) and PCIe (GeForce 6600 128MB and GeForce 6600 256MB) schools. There were also cuts at different price ranges, from the $14 slice off the $128 X600 Pro 128MB (PCIe) to the $18 drop on the $196 X600 Pro 128MB (PCIe). For best mainstream buys, we'll have to go with the GeForce 6600 and 6600GT on the PCI Express end. As there is no AGP variant as yet, the GeForce FX 5900XT 256MB owns this market, especially as the Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB has drifted above the $200 mark.
