February 2005 Video Card Price Guide - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff February 3, 2005We designate the entry-level market as video cards that have a street price of under-$100. These cards are targeted at value-system buyers, and we usually don't find the high-performance hardware at this price range. Of course, that doesn't mean that gaming performance or features have to suffer, and only having a C-Note in your pocket is no reason to start looking in the bargain bins. It has been a long time since a mainstream video card fell below the $100 mark and dropped into our entry-level chart, but we finally have a new entrant. The $99 ATI Radeon 9600 256MB just barely squeaked in, but otherwise, it's business as usual. Due to the lower retail prices, cuts are also less frequent in this area, but we do see overall prices dropping, with the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB (-$10), ATI Radeon 9000 128MB (-$9) and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256MB (-$8) heading the list. In terms of overall value, the ATI Radeon 9600SE 128MB is still the card to beat, although the GeForce 6200 PCI Express and GeForce FX 5700LE AGP offer compelling NVIDIA alternatives. Unfortunately, last month's value leader, the GeForce PCX 5750 128MB, has jumped in price and has now risen into the mainstream area.
