Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$199 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon X700 Pro and GeForce 6600 and 6600GT, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain, and have then dropped in price.
The mainstream video card list is usually where we see a few noticeable price drops mixed in with a few high-end cards dropping below the $200 mark and entering the mainstream market. True to form, we find a couple of new entrants for July, including the ATI Radeon 9800XT 256MB (which dropped a long way due to an $85 cut), the ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256MB, and a pair of GeForce 6800LE 128MB entries. The best mainstream choices remain unchanged, as the GeForce 6600GT 128MB is the best overall value, while the GeForce 6800LE and Radeon X800 128MB cards are at the top of the chart for mainstream performance.
