July Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff July 7, 2005If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT Platinum and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end section of the video card market is more of a "wild west" type of environment, where the pricing shoot-outs are always popping up between ATI and NVIDIA cards. This month that statement might be truer than in the past, and the emergence of the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB cards has really shuffled the deck for the high-end crop of ATI and NVIDIA boards. There were significant cuts to many GeForce 6800 Ultra and X800 XT/X850 video cards, and with the new NVIDIA powerhouse still priced lower than some existing models, this pattern should continue next month.
