August Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff August 9, 2005If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT Platinum and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end section of the video card market is more of a "wild west" type of environment, where the pricing shoot-outs are always popping up between ATI and NVIDIA cards. This month we find a ton of price activity taking place, and the vast majority of the listed cards posted a lower price for August. The big winners were the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB boards, which dropped across the board, along with some ATI Radeon X850/X800 XT 256MB and GeForce 6800GT 256MB cards that showed significant price cuts as well. The only surprise was the higher prices on a few of the GeForce 6800 Ultra cards, which by rights should be dropping in response to the GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB introduction.
