September Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff September 9, 2005If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT Platinum and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end section of the video card market is more of a "wild west" type of environment, where the pricing shoot-outs are always taking place between ATI and NVIDIA video cards. This month we again find a lot of price activity at the high-end, with virtually all levels receiving some form of price break. The NVIDIA GeForce 6800, 6800GT and 6800 Ultra cards have really dropped over the past month, as have some ATI X800 and X850 graphics boards. This is what we call the "GeForce 7 Series Impact", as these ultra-powerful GeForce 7800 GT and GTX cards exploded on the market at prices lower than last-gen ATI and NVIDIA enthusiast-level cards. It has taken some time for prices to hit equilibrium levels, and this trend will likely continue in the coming months.
