October Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff October 6, 2005If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon 9800 Pro and GeForce FX 5900 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X800 XT Platinum and GeForce 6800 Ultra-based cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end section of the video card market is more of a "wild west" type of environment, where the pricing shoot-outs are always taking place between ATI and NVIDIA video cards. We definitely found some price activity, but it is no longer limited to just price cuts. This month we find many of the older GeForce 6800 GT and Ultra AGP boards rising in price, and making it more expensive to upgrade older AGP platforms. Availability is also getting tight on the NVIDIA side, and we'd definitely look at the Radeon X800 and X850-based cards for our AGP fix. On the PCI Express side, the ultra-powerful GeForce 7800 GT and GTX cards are the obvious choice, and at current price levels, this is one gift horse we're not going to look in the mouth.
