December 2005 Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff December 16, 2005Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$199 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon X700 Pro and GeForce 6600 and 6600GT, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain (like the Radeon X800), and have then dropped in price. The mainstream video card list is usually where we see a few noticeable price drops mixed in with some high-end cards dropping below the $200 mark and entering the mainstream market. We barely stay true to form this month, as the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256MB PCI Express dropped $15 to $199, and was the single new mainstream entrant. Of course we do have some cards making their debut, including the NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 256MB and 6800XT 128MB cards, and the ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB AGP and ATI Radeon X1600 Pro and XT 256MB cards. This makes the mainstream market quite crowded these days, and choosing the top card has never been more difficult. We still like the GeForce 6600GT 128MB boards for overall value, but the ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB cards do make an interesting performance alternative.
