January Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff January 18, 2006If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon X800 and GeForce 6800 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X1800 256MB and GeForce 7800 GT and GTX 256MB cards, some of which can push $600. The high-end section of the video card market is more of a "wild west" type of environment, where the pricing shoot-outs are always taking place between ATI and NVIDIA video cards. This is certainly true this month, and virtually all the significant price drops happened in this area. As well, there were no fewer than seven new card additions for January 2006, and many of these -such as the Gigabyte DUAL GeForce 6800GT and ASUS DUAL GeForce 7800 GT 512MB enthusaist-level boards - were right at the very top end of the chart. The Radeon X1800 XT and GeForce 7800 GTX continue to battle it out for the overall performance crown, but for our money, the GeForce 7800 GT and Radeon X1800 XL cards are a better overall high-end value.
