February Video Card Price Guide - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff February 23, 2006We designate the entry-level market as video cards that have a street price of under $100. These cards are targeted at value-system buyers, and we usually don't find the high-performance hardware at this price range. Of course, that doesn't mean that gaming performance or features have to suffer, and only having a C-Note in your pocket is no reason to start looking in the bargain bins. Each month we usually welcome a new entrant or two into the entry-level video card list, but this time it was a very close shave, as only a single card dropped below $100 and that was the now-$99 GeForce FX 5700 128MB PCI card. There was some other movement, as the GeForce 6600 128MB PCI Express fell by $13 and there were a few $6-$7 cuts throughout the chart. On the AGP side of things, the ATI Radeon 9800SE 128MB and Radeon 9600XT 128MB cards are the obvious leaders, both in terms of price and performance. NVIDIA may not offer a comparable sub-$100 AGP video card (although the GeForce 6600 AGP cards are getting close), the company holds the advantage in terms of PCI Express offerings. The GeForce 6600 128MB and 256MB models are both top bets in this price range, while ATI is a bit behind with the X600 XT 128MB.
