February Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff February 23, 2006Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$199 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon X1600 Pro/XT, Radeon X800 GTO, and GeForce 6600GT & 6800XT, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain (like the Radeon X800), and have then dropped in price. The mainstream video card list is usually where we see a few noticeable price drops mixed in with some high-end cards dropping below the $200 mark and entering the mainstream market. This month followed along with that trend, as the ATI Radeon X800 XL 256MB PCI Express fell by $44 and entered the mainstream market, and was joined by the other new GeForce 6800 GS 256MB and BFG GeForce 6600GT OC 128MB PCI Express entrants. In terms of individual price cuts, the Radeon X800 XL 256MB led the way, followed by the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (-$34) and NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 256MB PCI Express (-$20). For overall value, the mainstream market is likely the best place to look, and our money is on the GeForce 6600GT 128MB and GeForce 6800 GS 256MB from NVIDIA and the Radeon X800 GTO and Radeon X800 XL 256MB cards from the ATI list.
