July Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff July 28, 2006Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$199 price range, and is really where you'll get the most bang for your buck. This is where you will find the latest mainstream video cards, like the Radeon X1600 Pro/XT, Radeon X800 GTO, and GeForce 6600 GT & 7600 GT, along with a few higher-end products that have been replaced at the top of the food chain (like the Radeon X800/X850), and have then dropped in price. The mainstream video card list is usually where we see a few noticeable price drops mixed in with some high-end cards dropping below the $200 mark and entering the mainstream market. This month, due to the five cards dropping into the entry-level chart, our mainstream numbers have shrunk. There were still three high-end cards that received significant cuts, and subsequently fell into the mainstream area. These included the powerful Radeon X850 Pro 256MB (-$69), Radeon X850 XT Platinum 256MB (-$54), and Radeon X1800 GTO 256MB (-$34). These offer excellent price-performance ratios, and with the entry of the Radeon X1800 GTO 256MB, ATI now has a viable competitor to the Radeon X1800 GTO 256MB at the high-end of this chart. The Radeon X850 cards are also great deals, especially the sub-$150 Radeon X850 Pro 256MB, which is a single-slot card with a smaller heatsink-fan than the X850 XT.
