If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon X800 and GeForce 6800 cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon X1900 XTX 512MB and GeForce 7900 GT and GTX 256MB/512MB cards, some of which can push $500.
The high-end section of the video card market is usually more of a "wild west" type of environment, where the pricing shoot-outs are always taking place between ATI and NVIDIA video cards, and new hotrod cards are always joining the party. While June welcomed in some new high-end models like the GeForce 7950 GX2 1GB, July was more of a consolidation of existing cards. The ATI models certainly enjoyed the largest price drops, and many of the X1800 and X1900-based video cards fell by significant amounts. NVIDIA boards, on the other hand, either stayed put or even increased slightly, and it seems like ATI is the one looking to become more competitive against the popular GeForce 7 Series.
