We designate the entry-level market as video cards that have a street price of under $100. These cards are targeted at value-system buyers, and we usually don't find the high-performance hardware at this price range. Of course, that doesn't mean that gaming performance or features have to suffer, and only having a C-Note in your pocket is no reason to start looking in the bargain bins.
Each month we usually welcome a new entrant or two into the entry-level video card list, but this activity can really change from month to month. July saw a virtual deluge of new entry-level contenders, as five new cards dropped below the $100 mark. August is not quite as active, as only two new cards - the Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB and Gigabyte DUAL GeForce 6600 - joined the club. This last one is an interesting sub-$100 option, as it includes two GeForce 6600 GPUs on a single SLI card. This solution might not be viable for everyone, and as far as basic choices go, the Radeon X800 GTO 256MB PCI Express card is still our top entry-level choice, and at least until the GeForce 7600 GS drops a bit more in price, it's the consensus choice.
