June 2007 Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff June 29, 2007If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon X1800/X1900/X1950 and GeForce 7900/7950-based cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB and GeForce 8800 GTX/Ultra 768MB cards, some of which can have price tags of $500-$600 or more. The high-end section of the video card market is the most active of the bunch, where pricing shoot-outs are always taking place between ATI and NVIDIA video cards, and new hotrod cards are continually joining the party. Last month we welcomed the Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB card to the fold, and it shed $34 in June, finally dropping below the $400 level. There were also some very significant price changes, such as the Radeon X1950 Crossfire 512MB jumping $85 and the GeForce 8800 Ultra 768MB shaving $117 off its retail price. In terms of top graphics card options, the DirectX 10-compliant GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB and Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB offer the top combination of performance and feature set for the NVIDIA and ATI enthusiast-level buyers.
