October Hard Drive Price Guide - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff October 31, 2007The following chart takes a slightly different angle on Parallel ATA hard drive prices, and attempts to discern overall value using a price per GB figure, and then sorting by it. This chart pushes the lowest $/GB rating to the top, and uses a tried-and-true method of illustrating where the best overall values may exist, Of course, no method is foolproof, and other factors like performance or features certainly come into play, but it does give us a different view on which hard drive brands, speeds and capacities offer the best bang for the buck. The Parallel ATA drive values have not changed very much over the last month, and we still find the majority of top PATA $/GB deals sitting in the 400GB to 500GB range. In October, these comprised the top four listings, and made up eight out of the top ten PATA values. The other two positions were filled by a set of 250GB and 320GB hard drives, but it's clear where the best bang for the buck exists in the Parallel ATA market. The top-rated drive is the Western Digital Caviar SE 500GB, which checks in at an amazing 21-cents/GB, followed by the Samsung SpinPoint T133 400GB and Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB drives, both at 23-cents/GB. As usual, a selection of 80GB and 120GB hard drives continue to sit right at the bottom of the chart.
