November Hard Drive Price Guide - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff November 30, 2007The following chart takes a slightly different angle on Parallel ATA hard drive prices, and attempts to discern overall value using a price per GB figure, and then sorting by it. This chart pushes the lowest $/GB rating to the top, and uses a tried-and-true method of illustrating where the best overall values may exist, Of course, no method is foolproof, and other factors like performance or features certainly come into play, but it does give us a different view on which hard drive brands, speeds and capacities offer the best bang for the buck. The Parallel ATA value chart continued to show stable trends, and we still find the vast majority of top PATA $/GB drive values are in the 400GB to 500GB range. We repeat October's results, and this capacity range accounts for eight out of the top ten PATA value listings. The other two positions were filled 250GB and 320GB hard drives, but it's obvious the PATA sweet spot is at the 400GB to 500GB level. In terms of individual deals, the top-rated drive is the Samsung SpinPoint T133 400GB at 23-cents/GB, while the Maxtor DiamondMax 21 500GB takes the second spot at 24-cents/GB. Last month's champ, the Western Digital Caviar SE 500GB, fell on hard times and its price jumped by $27 this month - putting it well out of contention at 26-cents/GB.
