July Video Card Price Guide - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff July 31, 2008If the entry-level and mainstream video cards cover us to the $200 price mark, then the high-end market takes us home. Here there is really no price limit, and as long as it's a desktop 3D gaming card, then we'll do our best to fit it in. This segment really starts off with the Radeon X1900/X1950 and GeForce 7900/7950-based cards, before finishing with the top-end Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB/1GB, Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB, and GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB and GTX/Ultra 768MB cards, some of which can have price tags of $400-$600 or more. The high-end video card chart is usually the most active of the bunch, where pricing shoot-outs are always taking place between ATI and NVIDIA video cards, and new hotrod cards are continually joining the party. These both happened in noticeable quantities, especially in terms of price drops, as the GeForce GTX 200 series fell by triple digits. We also welcomed two new members to the club, as the Radeon HD 4850 1GB and GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB made their first appearance in our guide. As for the best high-end deals, the Radeon HD 4870 512MB is a serious value, while the more expensive GeForce GTX 280 1GB remains the fastest single-GPU card money can buy. One interesting card is the GeForce GTX 260 896MB, which shed over $100 and is hovering near $300.
