Solid State Drive Value

As in the previous PATA and SATA hard drive charts, the following list takes the various Solid State Drives and tries to determine with models and capacities offer the best overall value. Although we use the tried-and-true method of determining hard drive value, using a "price per GB" column, it's a bit more difficult when comparing Solid State Drive technology - not only due to the significantly higher prices, but also because of performance and features differences between models. Even so, the chart gives us a different view on which SSD brands, speeds and capacities offer the best GB bang for the buck.

The Solid State Drive market obviously works on a very different set of economics compared to standard PATA and SATA hard drives. The $/GB ratings in the SSD chart are significantly higher, and even the best value rating here is not even close to the PATA or SATA listings, and even far outpaces the worst-rated Raptor and VelociRaptor hard drives. But this is all relative, and SSD buyers will appreciate the latest price drops, and the fact that the OCZ Core V2 30GB is now at $2.33/GB, the OCZ Core 128GB sits at $2.41/GB, and the OCZ Core V2 120GB has fallen to a $2.79/GB rating.
