December Video Card Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff January 2, 2009Our definition of mainstream video cards encompasses the $100-$199 price range, and this is where gamers will get the most bang for the buck. You will find the latest mainstream-performance video cards here, like many of the Radeon HD 3000 and 4000 series cards, as well as the same range from the GeForce 8 and 9 series. Of course, there is always the potential of some performance video cards dropping out of the high-end chart and joining the mainstream party, which is definitely good news for buyers. The mainstream video card list is where we usually see a few new entries mixed in with some high-end cards falling below the $200 mark and entering this chart. Unfortunately, these two factors didn't amount to much in December; no high-end cards dropped below the $200 mark, and the only brand new entrant was the Radeon HD 4830 1GB. Both the GeForce 9800 GTX/GTX+ 512MB and Radeon HD 4830 512MB/1GB video cards are top-rated values, but the Radeon HD 4850 512MB remains the price-performance winner at this range.
