January Hard Drive + SSD Price Guide - Page 6By SharkyExtreme.com Staff January 30, 2009As in the previous PATA and SATA hard drive charts, the following list takes the various Solid State Drives and tries to determine with models and capacities offer the best overall value. Although we use the tried-and-true method of determining hard drive value, using a "price per GB" column, it's a bit more difficult when comparing Solid State Drive technology - not only due to the significantly higher prices, but also because of performance and features differences between models. Even so, the chart gives us a different view on which SSD brands, speeds and capacities offer the best GB bang for the buck. The Solid State Drive market obviously works on a very different set of economics compared to standard PATA and SATA hard drives, and the $/GB ratings in the SSD chart are significantly higher. The Transcend 128GB drive repeats as the top SSD value, checking in at $1.92/GB. Two drives have joined it in the sub-$2/GB range, as the G.SKILL Titan 256GB sits in second at $1.96/GB and the pqi S525 128GB takes third at $1.98/GB. Over the last few months we've seen a nice reduction in SSD $/GB ratings, and now the majority of models sit at under $3/GB.
