February Hard Drive + SSD Price Guide - Page 4By SharkyExtreme.com Staff March 2, 2009The following chart takes a slightly different angle on Parallel ATA hard drive prices, and attempts to discern overall value using a price per GB figure, and then sorting by it. This chart pushes the lowest $/GB rating to the top, and uses a tried-and-true method of illustrating where the best overall values may exist, Of course, no method is foolproof, and other factors like performance or features certainly come into play, but it does give us a different view on which hard drive brands, speeds and capacities offer the best bang for the buck. The Parallel ATA value chart has stuck to the usual trends, with a wide selection of drive capacities from 250GB to 750GB present in the top ten listings. The 400GB and 500GB drives still make up the majority of top PATA drive values, including a pair of Western Digital Caviar SE and SE16 drives sitting in the top two places at 16-cents/GB. The Western Digital Caviar 250GB drive takes third place with an 18-cents/GB rating, while a selection of Hitachi, Western Digital and Seagate 400GB and 500GB hard drives follow close behind at 19-cents/GB.
