GeForce4 Ti and MX Overclocking Guide

By Ryan "Speedy" Wissman :  June 3, 2002

3DMark2001 SE Con't

Next up we have the Game 3 - Lobby test in low detail, where we find overclocking the GeForce4 Ti 4400 didn't give us much of a performance boost, but we did see a slight performance increase with the overclocked MX 440.

Finally, the eight light polygon test will gauge how many triangles per second the two cards can do, and pretty well confirm the above results. This is an interesting test, because it tends to isolate the core performance and gives us a good view on the overclocked performance levels of the GeForce4 Ti 400 and MX 440 GPUs.

Conclusion

Both the GeForce4 Ti 4400 and MX 440 showed considerable tolerance for overclocking. The VisionTek Xtasy GeForce4 Ti 4400 overclocked to speeds just a hair faster than the stock speed on its big brother the Ti 4600, effectively saving us from spending the extra $100. Sure, the GeForce4 Ti 4600 overclocks as well, but with far less impact on overall framerates.

The VisionTek Xtasy GeForce4 MX440 turned out to be an excellent overclocker, that came very close to matching the clock speeds of the more expensive MX 460. For those that already own a GeForce4 MX 440, the option of adding active cooling is a very attractive one. For new buyers, the price difference between the MX 440 and the MX440 is only about $45, so you can really choose between spending the cash upfront for the MX 460 or picking up the Crystal Orb for $12 and trying your luck at overclocking.
