Originally the Voodoo3 3000 was all set to be the Voodoo3 flagship for Q1 1999 (another Voodoo3 will be released in Q2). It was all set to have its 16MB of SGRAM bumped up to 183MHz but in a surprise turn-around 3Dfx has stated that the 3000's memory will now be locked at the initial 166MHz. It's not actually a 'lowering', as the original Voodoo3 3000's memory we saw at Comdex '98 was actually clocked at 166Mhz and seemed to work flawlessly. The great yields obtained at 166MHz are said to be the main reason for this. Thus, 3Dfx has decided to stick to the same clock speed and re-introduce the 3000 as the 'gaming enthusiasts' board. It's also enabled them to introduce another Voodoo3 based product. So instead of the originally planned two products for Q1 99 we now have a third. The Voodoo3 3000 will be priced at a suggested retail price of $179.99 in the US. It will still feature the promised 350MHz RAMDAC and TV/S-Video Out capabilities (which was never a working part on the Voodoo Banshee reference design). Unlike the 'mainstream' 2000, the Voodoo3 3000 will ship in an AGP flavor ONLY. There won't be a PCI version.

An undisclosed games bundle was also later mentioned by Howse. Apparently, the 'snazzy' 3Dfx branded box will ship with new game titles that have yet to come out. Clearly there will be a few fisticuffs between developers to make sure they are on the bundle but we wouldn't be too surprised to see Glide based titles. Firm favorites (and our own educated guess) of Glide have been Epic Megagames, so could this mean a version of Unreal Tournament to be bundled with the Voodoo3? After all it's supposed to be out in late March (this year) so over to you Mr. Mark Rein… Other software houses such as EA have also been firm supporters of Glide as an API and at the Voodoo2 launch in San Francisco several representatives from the company did indeed express their 'loyalty' to 3Dfx and Glide.
