Although there's no mention of the Voodoo3 -4000, we did ask Howse about the 'missing' 4000. It seems as though the original plans are still well in order and that a Voodoo3 (the 4000) will still be released in Q2 in conjunction with the Camino chipset to support AGP 4X. One point though, the Voodoo3 in question will NOT support AGP 4X texturing as the Voodoo3 architecture still uses 3Dfx Interactive's propriety DME transfer to shift textures.
3Dfx will later today start a pre-order program with Electronics Boutique, Babbages and Comp USA (not today) where Internet users can order any particular Vodooo3 flavor they choose. As you can see the choice has 'increased' that little bit more as has 3Dfx's marketing campaign. Expect to see TV adverts, 3Dfx Interactive branded sections at the above mentioned retail outlets and even 'trained' staff that have been um...'trained' to inform consumers of the benefits of 3D acceleration with a Voodoo3 (Big-brother will be watching in a store near you!). All of the above boards are set to be released in VERY late March or early April. When asked about the possibility of a Taiwanese manufacturer (such as Skywell) handling the retail for South East Asia, Howse declined to comment. The same can be said for the possibility of Guillemot selling Voodoo3 boards in the UK. It's not very likely since Howse told Sharky Extreme that, "3Dfx Interactive will be handling retail in both the US and Europe. Should we need help, then we might well seek it." He also went on to say that the release of the Voodoo3 would be very much a simultaneous one over Europe and the US.
