    AOpen XC Cube EZ65 Review
    By Vince Freeman :  May 20, 2004

    PCMark 2004 Pro Memory Performance

The PCMark 2004 Memory benchmark is the latest evolution of this popular FutureMark performance test, and follows much the same format as the previous PCMark 2002 revision. The benchmark uses multiple data types and sizes and processes these through system memory, thus giving a real-world performance rating across a wide range of applications and potential uses, along with producing a final memory performance score. The makes the PCMark 2004 memory performance section a pretty good test of real-world performance, for a wide range of possible applications and games.

Our first memory test involves the PCMark 2004 Memory benchmark, and like in past system scores, the XC Cube EZ65 takes third place. The overall results are extremely high for such a diminutive system, and scoring over 4700 in this test is still quite good, even against larger desktop platforms. The integrated graphics and their shared-memory format do take a toll on memory performance, and once again, the i865G motherboard shows slightly higher performance in this area.

    SiSoft SANDRA 2004 Performance

SiSoft SANDRA 2004 is the latest revision of this popular system benchmark, but it sticks to its roots and supplies a wide range of individual benchmarks and system utilities. The memory bandwidth tests are the most popular section of the SiSoft SANDRA benchmark suite, and highlight the potential performance levels of the motherboard's CPU-memory subsystem.

The SiSoft SANDRA Integer memory bandwidth testing shows the same basic trend as PCMark 2004 Pro, and the places remain the same between tests. Enabling the Intel Extreme 2 graphics core also drops performance by a commensurate amount, although the decrease is not as large as with PCMark 2004 Pro. These are still extremely high memory bandwidth scores for the XC Cube EZ65, and to come this close to high-end Intel motherboards is still a great showing.

The SiSoft SANDRA 2003 Floating Point Bandwidth results are right along with same lines as the Integer testing, and confirm the memory performance gap between the various platforms and chipsets.
