    OCZ PC2-8500 Titanium 2x1GB Review
    By Vince Freeman :  June 4, 2008

    Memory Performance Testing Part 2:

The second part of our memory benchmarking section highlights the Everest Ultimate Edition 4.2 and WinRAR benchmarks, both of which offer a slightly different view of memory and subsystem performance.

    Everest Ultimate Edition 4.2

Everest Ultimate Edition is another very popular system application, which follows SiSoft SANDRA by offering a selection of diagnostic and benchmark utilities. Once again, we're concentrating on memory performance, so the three tests employed are Memory Read, Memory Write and Memory Latency. While similar to SANDRA in purpose, these do differ in execution, and may give another view on the benefits of DDR2-1066.

Our first chart shows the bandwidth scores in the Memory Read test, and here we see the OCZ PC2-8500 Titanium 2x1GB kit performing very well, and demonstrating notable gains at 1066 and 1111 MHz. The difference between DDR2-800 CL4 and DDR2-1111 CL5 is well over 1GB/sec. in bandwidth, and something that definitely gets our attention.

The Memory Write testing usually doesn't offer up much of a difference on the Intel platforms, and even with OCZ memory speeds clocked to 1066 MHz or higher, the results are very close.

The Memory Latency results are very similar to those in the SANDRA testing, and even at higher timings, the extra bandwidth afforded by DDR2-1066 makes it the clear winner.

    WinRAR 3.71

WinRAR includes an internal, multi-threaded benchmark program that measures the performance of the RAR compression and decompression algorithm using a demanding worst-case data set. In this scenario, memory speeds have an impact on the score, with the OCZ PC2-8500 Titanium 2x1GB kit taking the top spot.
