  • Because we know you want it, we'll go right to the benchmarks. But we recommend you keep on reading since later on we go in-depth into the Voodoo5's feature set.

    Graphite PowerMac G4 450 w/1MB L2 cache
    128MB PC100 CAS-2 SDRAM
    800MBps memory bus
    IBM Deskstar 27GB 7200RPM HD
    Mac OS 9.04
    OpenGL 1.1.3
    Voodoo5 5500 PCI
    ATI Rage 128 Pro AGP
(only one video card was installed at a time)

    Intel P-III 933MHz
    128MB PC800 RDRAM
    1.6GBps memory bus
    10.2GB Seagate Barracuda ATA II
    Windows 98 SE
    Voodoo5 5500 AGP

Obviously a comparison between a Pentium III 933MHz and a G4 450MHz Motorola part is not exactly fair, even if Steve Jobs says the G4 450 is faster. Therefore we are not making one. We are not grading the Voodoo5 for the Mac against the performance of its PC counterpart. We are comparing the Voodoo5 on the Mac to the ATI Rage 128 on the Mac. The PC system is included to give a point of reference as to PC performance.
