  • High Quality mode tests 32-bit performance with more demanding geometry than Normal mode.

    Again, the Rage 128 Pro passes the Voodoo5 at 640x480, but with the added bandwidth of 32-bit color, it falls behind at 800x600 and above. The Voodoo5 remains strong up to 1024x768. At 1280x1024 it loses ground but still manages to remain above 30fps.

    We ran a few numbers with full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA) enabled to see how the performance was impacted and how the image looked. In these numbers we used 4x FSAA. To learn more about FSAA, keep reading!

    The Voodoo5 takes quite a nasty performance hit at 800x600 and above with 4x FSAA on but it does improve picture quality. Whether the performance hit is worth the quality gain is a matter of personal preference, but at 640x480 where there is no significant difference in frame rate, having FSAA on would be far preferable.
