Two months ago Sharky Extreme
reported on the pending production of an "SLI" capable driverset from Metabyte that allowed virtually any two video accelerators to be utilized together for higher graphic output.
Since that time many readers and Sharky Extreme staffers alike have been begging for any information updates concerning Metabyte's progress, and the possibility of one if not several video card manufacturers offering a Metabyte-propelled SLI (now renamed to Parallel Graphics Processing or PGP) video solution.
After much undercover research and information gathering we're prepared to present an update on the Metabyte PGP story, complete with the most up to date information we possess.
As documented in the previous stories we've done on the new Metabyte PGP driver technology, the ability to run two video accelerators in a parallel configuration is very seductive to the hardcore gamer as well as the performance enthusiast alike.
By combining two next-gen vid cards' strong throughput together, frame rates increase dramatically under both graphically intensive areas within a game, as well as in areas where the action isn't as intense.
When we speculated on the possible appearance of a PGP video solution from one of the major video card manufacturers of the current market place, we neglected to consider the possibility that a company dedicated towards delivering the fastest gaming PCs possible might swoop down and scoop up the Metabyte technology for their own benefit.
Such a company could then begin marketing PGP video kits within their own PC offerings, featuring cards like those based around the Voodoo3 or TNT2 chipsets. This would allow them to undisputedly hold the title of the "World's Fastest Gaming PC", and it would allow their customers who buy the PCs to hold the title as well.
