Although this was just a "quickie" to see what happens when you concoct the fastest technology currently available into one Molotov cocktail of a PC, the "Quaver" benchmark once again shows where an extra 32MB of Frame Buffer memory can make a difference. Those of you that like your Quake III: Arena at 1280x1024 and in 32-bit color (or in colour in England), with textures set to "MAX" on a 19-inch+ monitor might be able to justify the added cost (around $100) of that extra 32MB of rather expensive DDR memory. For the rest, here's hoping that Christmas comes early or something to that effect… Guillemot's acquisition of Hercules looks like it's actually paying off some dividends, not only are they first to market with a 64MB GeForce2 GTS but our first impression of the board was very first-class. The turquoise circuit board and matching accessories (heat sinks) 'theme' should be a real hit this summer too…
It doesn't stop here, we'll return soon with a full in-depth review taking into consideration the useable variables such as Price Vs. Performance, overclocking, the bundle and the "shark teeth" ratings etc… just as soon as we've had our weekend (and no doubt a few quickies of our own). Ciao.
