The ASUS CD-S400 is a typical CLV-based drive, with the exception being that its spindle speed is higher than most other drives available. This translates into the "maximum of 40x" that the drive is rated at.

Strong stats to say the least, particularly the 75ms access time and the 6000KB/sec maximum data throughput rate. As you'd expect from a new CD-ROM, the CD-S400 can read a disc based on just about any format, and also offers full UltraDMA/33 compatibility for superior bandwidth support. Where the UDMA support really manifests itself is in CPU utilization, as the CD-S400 posted one of the lowest CPU utilization rates we've seen.
