There were more evolutionary rather than revolutionary video products at Comdex this year, with current and existing technologies getting a steroid or other power boost to satisfy our lust for speed. The parts all seem very strong and capable, which eliminates the possibility of choosing a "favorite" or "winner" at this time.
One side note to anyone interested in such things, the funniest part of the show for me occurred while being in a private meeting with 3Dfx's Tony Tamasi the day after the press conference about the Voodoo3. Sitting at a small table with me were a seriously tired Dennis "Thresh" Fong, (Thresh had just come off his impressive last minute heroics at the PGL tourney that he won just two days earlier) and his sharp online news editor Ken Hwang.
Anyway, I was asking a question to Tony (who also wasn't looking his best after 3Dfx's sweet-assed private party we all attended the night before at the Luxor) when all of the sudden Thresh decides that his full cup of coffee looks like a Q2 boss, and spills the cup all over the table!
LOL, I was a rolling fool as we all scrambled to get outta the coffee's way, no easy task after bagging just three hours sleep the nite before…
Thresh apologized and after some quick towel duty, the meeting continued, but I couldn't help but think that it was ironic that here's the best Quake2 player on the planet spilling a cup of coffee on us WITH HIS MOUSE HAND….
Go figure...
