    AMD Athlon XP 2000+ Review
    By Vince Freeman :  January 8, 2002

    Value

The Athlon XP 2000+ has a current street price of approximately $335, which compares quite well to the Pentium 4-2.0 or 2.0A at $400 and the Pentium 4-2.2 GHz at $650. In terms of price-performance, the Athlon XP holds all the cards and is a great bet for just about any use. Of course, the Pentium 4 Northwood models are also attractive outside of any performance comparison, as they use less voltage, run significantly cooler and have a great deal more overclocking potential.

    Conclusion

So we've come to the end of an AMD-Intel co-release and we really have no clear processor winner, just a lot more choices for potential buyers. This CPU battle is reminiscent of the final sequence in the Fast and the Furious, with AMD's pure Detroit Muscle up against Intel's more advanced core technology. And like in the movie, the ability of the Athlon XP 2000+ to keep up is a victory of sorts for AMD.

    Pros:

    • Fastest DDR Processor/Platform
    • Excellent Price-Performance
    • Even Number 2000+ Sure to be a Hit
    Cons:
    • Waiting for Thoroughbred Core
    • Higher Core Heat and Voltage compared to Northwood
    • Only a 66 MHz Core Speed Jump
